How to Make a Video a Live Wallpaper
These ready-made live wallpapers are all well and good, but what if you want to turn one of your videos into a live wallpaper?
Some phones let you turn videos into live wallpapers from the off. On Samsung S phones, go to Gallery, select the video file you want as your wallpaper, then tap the menu icon at the top right and “Set as wallpaper.” You can then trim the video loop using the Edit key.
Xiaomi phones also let you set video wallpapers by going to the Themes app -> My Page -> Wallpapers -> My Live Wallpapers, then hit the + icon. Here you can select one of your videos to make it your wallpaper.
You’ll need to download a third-party app to set a video as a live wallpaper on most other devices. A good option is Video Live Wallpaper.
Once you’ve installed the app, open it, add the video you want to use as wallpaper, then change things like the clip’s length, audio on or off, and, crucially, how you want it scaled. For vertically-oriented videos, select “Scale Fit.” For horizontal ones, like “Scale Fit with Crop.”
Once you’ve set everything up as you like, click the square icon at the top-right corner, then “Set wallpaper” to make it your background.
If you want to change your video wallpaper, you can either come back to the app or access it through the “Google Wallpapers app -> Live Wallpapers.”

If you have an iPhone 6S or later, you can obtain a live wallpaper on iPhone natively without downloading an application. This is because the iPhone 6S and later models (not including the first-generation iPhone SE) allow you to take Live Photos and enable 3D or Haptic Touch. Live Photos are concise snippets of video that will allow you to edit and choose the perfect frame for your photo. However, they can also be utilized as live wallpaper. Here’s how to make it in iOS 13 and iOS 14.
Step 1: Go to Settings > Wallpaper.
Step 2: Tap Choose a New Wallpaper. Scroll down and tap Live Photos.
Step 3: Select a photo. Make sure that you have Live Photo: On activated.
Step 4: Tap Set. Choose either Set Lock Screen or Set Both. Set Home Screen is not crucial since the wallpaper won’t move on the Home screen.
Once you’ve accomplished this, you’ll have a live wallpaper that animates on the Lock screen when you hit and hold the picture. You can also utilize several iOS applications to save a GIF or video as a Live Photo, which you’ll then be able to set as a live wallpaper. For example, IntoLive is a popular iOS app that can convert your videos into Live Photos, as can Giphy.
